Australian judges have told ministers to grant a visa to a Pakistani refugee who arrived by boat in 2012. The government argued it was against the national interest to grant him a visa because he arrived by boat. But the High Court said in its decision that the government could not deny someone a visa solely because they arrived by boat. The immigration department said it would comply with the decision, but insisted its policies would not change. The wider implications for other cases "appear to be limited", the department said. For years, Australia has tried to stop refugees and asylum-seekers from arriving by boat. One of the central goals of recent legislation has been to ensure such immigrants are never allowed to settle permanently in Australia. It has done deals with Papua New...

How powerful is your passport? Do you know? If you don't, the day has come for you to find out. In order to measure the strength of a passport the first thing you have to take into account is how freely it lets you travel. In order to do that, we referred to the Visa Restriction Index published annually by Henley and Partners. Many nations, however, ended up with visa free access to the same amount of countries. For example, citizens of both Canada and Denmark can travel to 173 countries. In cases such as these we referred to other factors. For example, is the country part of a larger passport union? How many countries are the citizens allowed to reside within permanently? Every European Union country has an advantage in this respect. Sometimes, however, we had to look at which citizenship...

More information about the video content bellow: 1. The region was called Guinea broadly when it was first "discovered" by Europeans, before the colonization. If you look at the map, Europeans had already started to name specific parts of "Guinea" individually: Gold Coast , Wheat Coast, Slave Coast, Ivory Coast, etc. When Europeans were first exploring western Africa, they gave broad regional names. Specifics got filled in later. 2. The Niger River, which starts in the densely forested southeast highlands of Guinea, is the principal river of western Africa. It is the third longest river of Africa. Its name possibly comes from the Tuareg phrase 'her n gheren', meaning 'river of rivers'. This name, shortened to ngher, is a local name used along the middle stretch of the river near Timbuktu, Mali. 3. The land that is now Guinea belonged to a series of African empires until France colonized it in the 1890s, and made it part of French West Africa. Guinea declared its independence from France on 2 October 1958. From independence until the presidential election of 2010, Guinea was governed by a number of autocratic rulers. 4. Conakry, the capital of Guinea, is apparently one of the wettest capitals in the world with an incredible 3.7 metres of rain per year! 5. Guinea boasts of spectacular landscape with lush and verdant rainforests and plenty of wildlife in the south. The waterfall-rich Fouta Djalon Plateau in the west has breathtaking scenery. 6. The country of Guinea has vast amounts of mineral and agricultural resources, containing approximately 25% of the world’s bauxite reserves, a major component of aluminium. But Guinea's poorly developed infrastructure and rampant corruption ranks the country as the 182nd least developed nation out of 188. 7. The literacy rate of Guinea is one of the lowest in the world: in 2010 it was estimated that only 41% of adults were literate. Primary education is compulsory for 6 years, but most children do not attend for so long, and many do not go to school at all. Children, particularly girls, are kept out of school in order to assist their parents with domestic work or agriculture, or to be married: Guinea has one of the highest rates of child marriage in the world. It has done deals with Papua New Guinea and Cambodia to settle refugees there, and reintroduced temporary protection visas. However, the Pakistani man arrived on Christmas Island in 2012, before the latest laws were in place. He was given refugee status after arguing that he would suffer persecution if he was sent back to Pakistan because he was a member of the Hazara ethnic minority. The government initially denied him a visa after capping the number of permanent protection visas it would issue in a single year. The High Court overturned that decision last year and ordered the government to reconsider his application. The immigration minister denied him a permanent visa for a second time because it would not serve the national interest to grant visas to those arriving by boat. But the High Court said the decision was not made according to law. "The minister could not refuse an application for a visa only because the applicant was an unauthorised maritime arrival," the judges said.

Although some Republicans are a bit worried over President's Trump's latest agreements with Democrats, his policy changes show he is still on the same path as the beginning of the elections. The Trump administration has recently imposed visa sanctions on four countries that often are uncooperative when the US deports their immigrants. Those countries are Cambodia, Eritrea, Guniea and Sierra Leone. The Department of Homeland Security said: “These four countries have not established reliable processes for issuing travel documents to their nationals ordered removed from the United States." http://www.politico.com/agenda/story/2017/09/15/trump-policy-regulation-driverless-cars-000522 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Vote It using http://wochit.com

Sometimes, however, we had to look at which citizenship is more desirable in terms of travel freedom. Both the United Kingdom and the United States top the list with visa free access to 174 countries. The United States, however, is much bigger. Within its borders, American citizenship allows you to travel and reside within a greater variety of regions. It was considerations such as these that led to the following rankings. These are the 25 Most Powerful Passports In The World You Might Want To Possibly Own. Cape Verde was a stopover for ships travelling between Europe and the rest of the world for centuries. It used to be a Portuguese colony, and today still retains the language and cultural affinities with its former overlord. It’s one of the most well developed countries in Africa and it’s also becoming a top tourism destination. You can now support this channel via Patreon, by accessing the link bellow. More information about the video content bellow: 1. Cabo Verde is a marine extension of the Sahara. A series of hot winds carrying brown dust from the Sahara appear in blasts that sweep across the islands during October to June and are known as harmattan. 2. Benito Mussolini the Italian dictator bought the rights to build an airport on Sal, Cabo Verde as he needed to refuel his aircraft on the flights between Europe and South America. Christopher Columbus visited the island of Boa Vista of Cabo Verde in 1498. Charles Darwin studied flora and fauna on the island in 1832. Vasco da Gama visited Santiago in 1497, on that same voyage he later discovered India. 3. When the archipelago became independent on July 5th 1975, the independence of Cape Verde was shared with Guinea Bissau. They were a joint country until 1980. Immediately following the November 1980 coup in Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde abandoned its hope for unity with Guinea-Bissau. 4. In 2005 there were 418,224 inhabitants on the Cape Verde islands. There are more Cape Verdeans living abroad than at home. Cape Verdeans also emigrated to the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, others include Senegal, Angola, Luxemburg, Argentina and Brazil. In the UK there are groups of Cape Verdeans in Liverpool, Cardiff, Newcastle and Hull. 5. There was a concentration camp at Tarrafal which operated between 1936 and 1954 and then in the 1960’s but closing finally in 1974. The prison was closed for the second, and final, time following the Carnation Revolution on 25 April 1974 which ended Portugal's 50-year-old Fascist regime. 6. After independence, Praia, the capital city, underwent a demographic boom. After 33 years its population had quadrupled, receiving migrating movements from all the islands. As a result, half of the entire population of Cabo Verde currently resides in Santiago island; a fourth in the Municipality of Praia; and a fifth in the City of Praia alone. 7. Since the early 1990s, Cape Verde has been a stable representative democracy, and remains one of the most developed and democratic countries in Africa.
